Martin Creed

Half the air of a given space - This video of Martin Creeds work has inspired me for my piece . I was playing with the idea of clostrophobia and I began to think if i were trapped in a room filled with balloons, would i feel comfortable? So, as a bit of an experiment I convinced my roommate to hop into a shower filled with balloons and see how she felt, after around 40 minutes she FINALLY felt clostrophobic, so moral of the story is my idea worked out! :)
Ann Hamilton- amazing installation pieces
I've been finding it incredibly difficult to find artists to inspire me with my project at the moment. FINALLY though, I have discovered a few, them being Ann Hamilton who I adore, Marc Quinn and Martin Creed who my tutor advised me to focus on. His work has really inspired me as you can see for yourself with all the balloons!:)

3D finally finished!

This is the 3D piece I made of a foetus in the womb, I put the piece together by using liquid latex tinted to get a skin-like feel and look and used clear gelatine to make the amniotic sack.
Since making this piece I have used more abstract ideas to signify the feeling of being in a womb, such as the balloons.

I am also looking in to cuccoons as that is quite similar and I find it very interesting

Conceptual Development

After we are born we feel the need to have the same sense of security as we did when in the womb. When young children feel unsafe they retreat to a cupboard, under the bed or a duvet to feel more safe and secure.
When we are born the first thing a midwife does is touch the bottom of our feet so the baby feels more secure, the is also why a newborn baby is wrapped up so tightly.

I have decided to work on this idea by taking images of it.

Images for conceptual development

First 3D piece!

I have began to work on a 3D piece of the foetus in the womb.
The form of the foetus is made out of cotton fabric and masking tape and I am covering that in liquid latex, which unfortunately is taking me a lot longer than I anticipated.
The amniotic sack I think I will make out of clear gelatine which will give the sack the right consistency.

Brief Synopsis

To sense my space-what does that mean?
To me its my personal space.
For my brief I have decided to focus in on the womb, which is the first personal space of any mammal which I find very interesting.
People always revert to the comfort of confined spaces and this is what I'm beginning to focus in on such as when a childs scared they tend to hide under their bed or a duvet etc.
